BUYING ADVICE #4

As well as considering the design and construction of the hull, it’s important buyers consider the interior build of a motor yacht.

MOULDED LINER

Used by both luxury cruiser manufacturers and motor yacht builders, a moulded liner is a straightforward method to form the interior structure of a vessel. A moulded liner can also be referred to as an internal glass unit (IGU).

A moulded liner, or IGU, is essentially a large fibreglass part, which incorporates various elements of a boat’s interior (bulkheads, shower cubicles, bench seats and other features), that is inserted in a hull. It’s an efficient way to build a boat, which enables a boatbuilder to replicate the same model again and again.

The integrity of the hull is also enhanced by the bonding of the hull, deck and liner, joining them together and creating a solid, unitised vessel.

Back Cove motor yachts are built exclusively using moulded liners. Like every Back Cove hull, the liners are constructed using precision VIP technology.

STICK-BUILT

A stick-built boat refers to the interior of a boat built using individual pieces of timber, that are cut, shaped and bonded to the hull and fit together to form the interior of the boat. (It’s similar to building a house.)

The stick-built process allows more flexibility regarding placement of interior partitions and furniture.

Sabre motor yachts are crafted using the stick-built method to create personalised interiors, based on owner preferences, to create a rich and unique feel in every vessel.
