About Us
Jed Elderkin, principal and director of Emarine Australia has years of international marine industry experience.

Jed has a lifelong passion for boats and boating and started out in the industry in 1976, working a summer job at a marina in Boothbay Harbor, Maine USA while still a student. Upon completion of studies at the University of Maine, Jed moved to Florida and spent the following years working on and with boats in Sarasota and Fort Lauderdale, including numerous trips up and down the eastern seaboard and Intercoastal Waterway, Bahamas and The Virgin Islands.

In 1988, Jed established his first boat sales enterprise, Maine Trailerboat Sales, and purchased pre owned boats in Florida for resale in Maine. This business was a great success and was operated until 1993, when he first moved to Australia.

Once in Australia, Jed settled first on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, where he lived and worked as Sales Manager for Kevlacat Power Boats until 1999. Returning to Maine at that time, Jed saw the rapid growth of the “Downeast Style” pleasure boat market. This niche market had grown from a few local builders producing small numbers of lobster boats converted for pleasure use to a design standard being replicated throughout the world. Knowing how well these vessels would translate to Australian conditions led to the formation of Emarine Australia and the exclusive dealership for Back Cove Yachts.

Evie Elderkin is Jed’s wife and partner in the business. Her organizational skills and fiscal management experience ensure the smooth running of Emarine Australia. In addition, Evie’s background in customer service is firmly entrenched, having grown up in and around her family’s business and having been a business owner herself in the United States.

Evie shares her love of the ocean and boating and is committed to the growth and success of the business and the complete and absolute satisfaction of all our customers.

Mike Mayne, Proprietor of Edgecomb Boat Works on the coast of Maine, USA is our quality control director and "on the ground" liason with the factory. He will personally inspect and sea trial each vessel prior to shipment and ensure the vessel leaves the factory exactly as per ordered specification.

Mike opened Edgecomb Boat Works in 1987 and has established the company as one of the premier classic wooden boat facilities in North America, having performed expert restorations on vessels from skiffs to schooners. His restorations of Lyman "Clinker Built" boats, are, in particular, reknown for attention to detail and uncompromising quality of workmanship. In addition, Edgecomb Boat Works has performed major systems work on numerous large cruisers.

EMarine Australia is proud of our association with Mike at Edgecomb Boat Works and are confident our customers will benefit from his professionalism and expertise.
